چکیده

Ancient Indian Ayurveda has used the palpation of the pulse at the wrist under the thumb to analyze physical health. In the nineteenth century, analysis of the contour of the peripheral pulse to assess arterial properties was first described. With the recognition of the importance of arterial stiffness there has been a resurrection of interest in pulse wave analysis. The non-invasive evaluation of arterial indices can be done by analyzing the Finger Pulse wave, obtained using the technique of PhotoPlethysmoGraphy(PPG).Measurements taken directly from thisfinger PPG or from its second derivative can be used to assess these properties. While some work has been done relating the cardiovascular properties with the finger pulse, not much has been done relating Ayurveda to it. This review describes the background of finger pulse contour analysis, its derivatives, its applications, and its future scope. KeywordsFinger PPG pulse wave, Feature extraction,Second Derivate of Finger PhotopleThysmoGraph(SDPTG), Ayurveda, Pitta.

Systolic blood pressure estimation using PPG and ECG during physical exercise.

In this work, a model to estimate systolic blood pressure (SBP) using photoplethysmography (PPG) and electrocardiography (ECG) is proposed. Data from 19 subjects doing a 40 min exercise was analyzed. Reference SBP was measured at the finger based on the volume-clamp principle. PPG signals were measured at the finger and forehead. After an initialization process for each subject at rest, the mod...

Assessment of Photoplethysmography Method in Extraction of Hemoglobin Concentration

Background: The importance of continuous monitoring along with rapid and accurate notification of changes in blood components such as hemoglobin concentration, especially in acute situations, encourages researchers to use non-invasive methods for measuring. Objective: This study was aimed to investigate the correlation between hemoglobin concentration and photoplethysmogram (PPG) and the p...

تخمین بدون کاف فشارخون مبتنی بر ویژگی‌های زمانی سیگنال نبض

Blood pressure is one of the vital signs. Specially, it is crucial for some cases such as hypertension patients and it should be monitored continuously in ICU/CCU. It must be noted that current systems to measure blood pressure, often require trained operators. As an example, in post-hospital cares, blood pressure control is difficult except with the presence of a nurse or use of a device that ...

Estimation of biophysical and functional properties of artery walls from pulse wave measured by photoplethysmography

Arterial pulse wave analysis in time and frequency domain was carried out to find out biophysical and functional properties of artery walls measured with a photoplethysmographic (PPG) device. Because peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a fatal problem all over the world, an easy diagnosis method would be needed. It could probably be diagnosed by PPG which is a non-invasive optical technique fo...

A review on EEG based brain computer interface systems feature extraction methods

The brain – computer interface (BCI) provides a communicational channel between human and machine. Most of these systems are based on brain activities. Brain Computer-Interfacing is a methodology that provides a way for communication with the outside environment using the brain thoughts. The success of this methodology depends on the selection of methods to process the brain signals in each pha...
